ZAUBER

Liliana Bodini (vocals, acoustic guitar, percussion)
Paolo Clari (keyboards, acoustic guitar)
Anna Galliano (keyboards, flute)
Mauro Cavagliato (bass, guitar)
Claudio Bianco (drums)

Zauber, from Turin, only released an album in the 70's but their career went on with many more CD releases. A dreamy, relaxed album, Zauber contains 7 tracks with acoustic guitar, keyboards and flute in evidence, in a soft style not far from Pierrot Lunaire. Liliana Bodini's voice is rather thin but gives the music an original atmosphere. Some tracks, like Dietro la collina, have good symphonic inspired keyboard playing.

The band activity before the album release is documented by Phoenix, a CD that includes 1977 unreleased recordings.
In 1981 keyboardist Oscar Giordanino joined the group, an experienced musician from the jazz scene who had already collaborated with the group in the past.

Founder members Liliana Bodini and Mauro Cavagliato, with his brother Massimo on drums, have kept Zauber alive until the 2000's with new CD releases.
Two members of the latest band line-up, Paolo Clari and Gianni Cristiani (flute), have released two CD's under the name Clarion in 1993 and 1995, with help from all the other musicians of Zauber, Liliana Bodini, Massimo and Mauro Cavagliato, Oscar Giordanino.

Zauber is a very rare album, pressed in 500 copies, and only had a local distribution on the small Mu label.
The first vinyl reissue came out in 2008 on BTF, with the same single cover and the lyric inner as the original. The album has never been counterfeited nor issued abroad.
It's been reissued on CD with the new title Il sogno in two different forms, in 1989 with three bonus tracks (Liliana, Id, Il sogno) and again in 2000 with a fourth one (Ipotesi), cover and catalogue number being the same.

The 1985 compilation LP Profumo di rovina contains recordings made by the Zauber musicians with some boys from the Turin Youth Detention Centre; four of the ten tracks are credited to Zauber.
Along with their own works, Zauber also collaborated with Mirage for the 1986 mini LP W la libertà (Drums EDQ 2199) and with Cooperativa Teatro Zeta for an LP issued in 1989, entitled Clowns, clowns, clowns...proibito (on Teatro Zeta label).
